Legal Roles

The request was successful.

Dear Newport City Council,

How many solicitors does the Council employ?

How many legal advisors does the council employ (a role which requires giving or advising on the law)?

How many solicitor jobs have been advertised internally and externallly in the past 2 years?

How many legal jobs have been advertised internally and externally in the past two years?

Also how were the roles advertised?

Can these figures be broken down to departments?

Yours faithfully,

Daniel South

Erica Gibson (Team Leader - Business Development), Newport City Council

Dear Mr South

Please find below a response to your recent request, under the Freedom of
Information Act, for information concerning legal roles within Newport
City Council.

Q1: How many solicitors does the Council employ?

24

The Law Society also publishes details of solicitors online and you can
find this for us at
[1]http://solicitors.lawsociety.org.uk/orga...
. However, some solicitors can choose not to say who they work for so it
will not always tell you every solicitor in an organisation.

Q2: How many legal advisors does the council employ (a role which requires
giving or advising on the law)?

27

Q3: How many solicitor jobs have been advertised  internally and
externally in the past 2 years?

Internally – 1

Externally - 5

Q4: How many legal jobs have been advertised internally and externally in
the past two years?

Internally - 3

Externally - 7

Q5: Also how were the roles advertised?

The adverts would be placed on the Council’s job page.

Q6: Can these figures be broken down to departments?

The council operates a centralised legal function, therefore all of the
above were recruitments within the Law 7 Regulation Service Area.
