Dear Mr Armstrong,

Re: Freedom of Information Act Request ref: LBH/7042018

Thank you for your request for information received on 01 February 2018. I
have responded to each request for information in turn below:

 1. Has the council installed any energy efficient street lighting in the
last five years, such as replacing halogen bulbs with LED street
lights.

Yes

 2. If the council is in the process of installing any energy efficient
street lighting, please confirm when the council started to do this
and provide an estimate of when the council expects to have switched
all street lights to energy efficient street lighting.

Our currently policy, approved by Cabinet in June 2013 (Sustainable
Transport Works Plan), is to provide LED lighting for all new planned
column and lantern replacements. The time to convert all lighting to LED
is dependent on the level of  funding that would be available. Based on
current levels we would expect it to be in the order of 25 years.

 3. How much did the council spend on running, installing and maintaining
street lighting under the council’s jurisdiction in 2015, 2016 and
2017?

I have captured the requested data in the table below.

Year Funding (£)
2014-2015 £ 3.2m
2015-2016 £1.2m
2016-2017 £ 1.2m

 4. How much does the council estimate they will spend on running,
installing and maintaining street lighting under the council’s
jurisdiction in 2018?

At present for 2017-2018 the funding has not been agreed by cabinet, but
we would anticipate it to be in the region of £ 1.2m.

 5. How many complaints were received in relation to new energy efficient
street lighting, if any, during 2017?

There has been a number of requests concerning the installation of the
energy efficient LED lighting some have been positive and others have been
of a negative nature, most have been because of the repositioning of the
lighting columns, some have required shields. We have installed in the
region of 490 new led lighting units have had approximately 25 enquiries
concerning the new style lighting.

If you are unhappy with how we have responded to your request you can ask
us to conduct an Internal Review. If so, please contact the [1]Feedback
and Information Team.

Yours sincerely,
