Lease details, Warwick Business School and the Shard

We're waiting for JJ Hermes to read a recent response and update the status.

To whom it may concern:

I respectfully request the following information under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act:

- Details of the lease agreement between the Warwick Business School and the Shard in central London. A direct copy of the agreement would be preferable. At a minimum, I would like to know the area of the space the university leases on the 17th floor of the Shard (in square feet), the duration of the lease, and the rent rates over the lifetime of the least agreement (including currently).

- An estimate of the total amount spent by the University to prepare the space for WBS in the Shard, including preparation of a 100-seat lecture theatre, a 60-seat lecture theatre, seminar rooms and the IT lab on site.

- The number of requests to use the space as of 2015 May 1 made from departments not affiliated with WBS, and the number of those requests granted.

In the interest of minimizing any printing costs, I would like scanned digital copies of the documents pertaining to Parts 1 of this request.

I look forward to hearing back from you regarding this request. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any follow-up questions. I would prefer all correspondence be sent digitally through this e-mail address, including the response to this request. Thank you for your time in addressing this query.

Sincerely,
JJ Hermes

Dear Mr Hermes,

Thank you for your email dated 6th May 2015 requesting information about the University of Warwick. Your request is being considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please find below your original request and our response.

The University declines to disclose a copy of the lease agreement as this information is exempt under section 21(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which states that “information which is reasonably accessible to the applicant otherwise than under section 1 is exempt information”. This information is reasonably accessible by being publically available through the Land Registry: http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/public

Section 21(1) of the FOIA exempts disclosure of information that is reasonably accessible by other means, and the terms of the exemption mean that we do not have to consider whether or not it would be in the public interest for you to have the information.

- An estimate of the total amount spent by the University to prepare the space for WBS in the Shard, including preparation of a 100-seat lecture theatre, a 60-seat lecture theatre, seminar rooms and the IT lab on site.

The total amount spent by the University to transform an empty shell into an academic venue fit for purpose, inclusive of VAT, was as follows:

* Construction - £1.886m,
* IT and Av - £397k,
* Furniture - £257k,
* Professional fees - £210k.

- The number of requests to use the space as of 2015 May 1 made from departments not affiliated with WBS, and the number of those requests granted.

As of 1 May 2015, 108 requests were made from departments not affiliated with WBS to use the space. Approval was granted for 104 requests, with a further 1 request being partially agreed.
In the interest of minimizing any printing costs, I would like scanned digital copies of the documents pertaining to Parts 1 of this request.
