How many statutory learning disability respite beds and how many statutory
learning disability respite units are being used?
The Southern Heath and Social Care Trust (SHSCT) currently has 8 statutory short
break beds for complex nursing and behaviours that challenge. All 8 learning disability
nursing short break beds are in use weekly and are in one respite unit, Woodlawn
House, Dungannon. .
How many private sectors beds are being used for Learning Disability Respite
over how many private care homes?
The SHSCT has 17 commissioned short break beds across 6 independent care homes
to include nursing and residential beds.
What is the Trusts future planning to increase learning disability respite beds?
The Trust continues to work with Independent Sector Providers and families to
maximise usage of commissioned LD short break beds and to explore other
opportunities for short breaks to meet the needs of the population. The Trust is
undertaking an options appraisal of short breaks which includes review of current
services / contracts, current users, new referrals and future planning for young adults
transitioning from children’s to adult services.
