LBC: Teacher Suspension Freedom of Information Request
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Connor Hand and I am writing from LBC Radio. I hope you're well.
I am writing in relation to a request under the Freedom of Information Act. Specifically, I would like to ask the following:
1. Since the beginning of the academic year 20/21, how many teachers or other members of school staff have been suspended, disciplined and/or dismissed after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a pupil or making unwanted advances towards a pupil? If it does not exceed the cost threshold, please provide a breakdown for the number for teachers and other support staff.
2. Of those to have been suspended, disciplined or dismissed, how many cases resulted in a charge being brought against the teacher/member of support staff?
3. How many students attend your school?
I am happy to discuss this further over the phone - my number is 07718084289 - and thank you in advance for your consideration.
Yours Faithfully,
Good afternoon
Further to your request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000, dated 8 October 2024, please find E‐ACT’s response as follows:
1. Since the beginning of the academic year 20/21, how many
teachers or other members of school staff have been suspended, disciplined
and/or dismissed after being accused of having a sexual relationship with
a pupil or making unwanted advances towards a pupil? If it does not exceed
the cost threshold, please provide a breakdown for the number for teachers
and other support staff. We are unable to provide a detailed breakdown of
suspensions, disciplinary actions, or dismissals related to allegations of
sexual relationships or unwanted advances towards pupils, as the number of
staff members involved is under five. Under Section 40(2) of the Freedom
of Information Act 2000, personal data that could identify individuals is
exempt from disclosure. In this case, releasing the information could lead
to the identification of specific individuals involved, even with
aggregate numbers, which would constitute a breach of their privacy
rights.
2. Of those to have been suspended, disciplined or dismissed, how
many cases resulted in a charge being brought against the teacher/member
of support staff? We are unable to provide a detailed breakdown of
suspensions, disciplinary actions, or dismissals related to allegations of
sexual relationships or unwanted advances towards pupils, as the number of
staff members involved is under five. Under Section 40(2) of the Freedom
of Information Act 2000, personal data that could identify individuals is

rights.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original letter and should be addressed to [email address]. Please
remember to quote your reference in any future communications.
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
5AF.
I confirm that this Freedom of Information Request is now closed.
Kind regards
