Dear Fraser Knight

Request FOI/11001

Further to your request received on 01/11/2024, I confirm that the Council
has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act
2000. For ease of reference, I will now address each of your questions in
turn.

Under the freedom of information act, I'd like to request the following
information:

Between 1st January 2019 and 1st October 2024 how much was spent by the
council on SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) provision?

Between 1st January 2019 and 1st October 2024 how much was spent by the
council on legal teams for cases dealing with SEND appeals?

Question 2019-20 2020-21 2021-22 2022-23 2023-24
Special educational needs and
disabilities £61.086m £66.764m £73.279m £77.239m £82.474m
Legal teams for cases £0.108m £0.176m £0.190m £0.207m £0.218m

Between 1st January 2019 and 1st October 2024 how many SEND appeals were
received by the council?

The Council received 428 SEN Tribunal appeals between 01.01.2019 and
01.10.2024.

Of these appeal cases decided by tribunal, how many were in favour of the
council?

SEN Tribunal appeals do not always conclude with them going in one party’s
favour or the other. Very often there are some matters decided in favour
of the Appellant and some matters in favour of the Respondent local
authority.

There is not necessarily only one party whom the outcome favours. As that
is the case it is impossible to say which of the above appeals were
decided in favour of the Respondent local authority and which were decided
in favour of the Appellant.

The Council publishes Access to Information requests and responses on its
