Dear General Register Office,

Can you tell me the reason why you are using two Languages on the Certificate of Birth? One being English written in accordance with the New Oxford Style Manual and the second being American Sign Language written in accordance with the Chicago Style Manual.

It is understood that the layout of certificates are protected by crown copyright, however can you tell me under what law or legislation protects the crown or binds the crown to the Birth Certificate?
