Subject: Language services

Your request is being considered and you will receive a response within
the statutory timescale of 20 working days, subject to the application of
any exemptions. Where consideration is being given to exemptions the 20
working day timescale may be extended to a period considered reasonable
depending on the nature and circumstances of your request. In such cases
you will be notified and, where possible, a revised time-scale will be
indicated. In all cases we shall attempt to deal with your request at the

Further to your request received on 06/02/2023, I confirm that the Council
has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act
2000. For ease of reference, we will answer each question in turn.

 

1) Do you provide these services in-house or outsource to the third party

We use approximately 120 self-employed interpreters used on an ad-hoc
non-contract basis, backed up by 5 external companies who are also used on
an ad-hoc, non-contract basis.

 

2) When does the current contract for language (interpreting and
translation services) expire and are there any extensions left?

There are no external contracts for any Translating and Interpreting
services.

 

3) If expiring in the next 12 months, when will the authority be going to
market again to procurement these services and via what channel?

Not applicable

 

4) Separately by in-house and outsourced

- Total number of face-to-face, in person assignment and hours completed
in 2022

6,069 assignments completed: hours not available.

 

- Total number of face-to-face, in-person assignment not fulfilled in 2022

991 assignments cancelled.

 

- Total number of telephone interpreting, minutes completed in 2022

1,140 assignments completed: minutes not available.

 

- Total number of video interpreting assignment and hours completed in
2022

Video assignments (Zoom, Teams, etc. included within face-to-face.
