Dear Masud Shahriyar,

Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the
Act”)

Further to your recent request for information held by King’s College
London, I am writing to confirm that the requested information is held by
the university.

Your request

We received your information request on 20^th December 2023 and have
treated it as a request for information made under section 1(1) of the
Act.

You requested the following information:

I would like to request the average grade for all stage 1 languages (one
semester) for 2021, 2022, and 2023 (breakdown on a module basis, level 6,
average grades and in 10% percentiles).

Our response

There are 5 or less students at Level 6 enrolled on stage 1 languages (one
semester) modules, therefore information for these modules has been
withheld. As disclosure of this information would contravene article 5(1)
of the UK GDPR which requires personal data to be ‘processed lawfully,
fairly, and in a transparent manner in relation to the data subject’. The
rights of the individual, and the possible consequences of disclosure,
make disclosure both unfair and unlawful. This information has therefore
been withheld under s. 40(2).

We have provided information on the Spanish Stage 1(One-Semester module)
where more than 6 students have enrolled. Please note we have provided an
average score but not 10% percentiles as this could lead to identification
of the enrolled students.

This completes the university’s response to your information request.

Dear Masud Shahriyar,

Please find attached the relevant data from the Students & Education Directorate Office.

We consider that disclosure of this information in the exact form requested might enable those with access to other information or knowledge to identify individuals and learn new information about those individuals e.g. those on the same course or at the same university. Disclosure of this information would contravene article 5(1) of the UK GDPR which requires personal data to be 'processed lawfully, fairly, and in a transparent manner in relation to the data subject'. The rights of the individual, and the possible consequences of disclosure, make disclosure both unfair and unlawful.

For this reason, we have taken measures to reduce the risk of identification, in this case the data does not include modules were 5 students or less have enrolled.

Kind Regards,

Lakeisha Dowsey-Magog (she/her)
