Lack of Classical Music and Opera Broadcasts on BBC TV

The request was refused by British Broadcasting Corporation.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

I seek a response to the following question under the UK Freedom of Information Act.

Why is it that opera and classical music can be broadcast on Radio 3 but seldom on BBC TV, eg 4. Is there a reason for this. Most other countries in Europe eg Austria broadcast opera on TV, why cannot the BBC?

Yours faithfully,

John Taylor

Dear FOI Enquiries,

I am replying to your reply to my FOI request. You say that BBC4 broadcast Wagner's Ring cycle. This is not correct. Only the Opera North Das Rheingold was broadcast, the rest of the cycle viewers were told to go to an iplayer! With many viewers not on line or having fast broadband this is not practicable. Besides we expect to view the whole cycle on TV Freeview. Why cannot the rest of the Ring Cycle not be broadcast as it was back in 1976 from Bayreuth?!

Yours sincerely,

John Taylor

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of British Broadcasting Corporation's handling of my FOI request 'Lack of Classical Music and Opera Broadcasts on BBC TV'.

Only Das Rheingold was shown on BBC4, how do viewers watch the rest of Der Ring des Niebelungen, ie Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung? We do not use iplayer!

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/l...

John Taylor

You need to explain how viewers without internet access can watch the remaining parts of the Opera North Wagner's Ring Cycle, they do not have I player!!
