Dear David

I am writing further to your request for information regarding L100 Economics applications. A search of our electronic and paper records has been completed and I can confirm that the information requested is held by the University.

In answer to your request:

May I please request the following information for the entry years of 2016, 2017 and 2018 for the L100 Economics course at the University of Nottingham:

1) Number of Applicants:

2016 – 1447
2017 – 1715
2018 – 2107

2) Number of Offers Made (this is combined conditional and unconditional offers)

2016 – 1181
2017 – 1595
2018 – 1941

Please note that we are still recruiting for 2018 so the application and offer data will continue to change.

3) Number of Unconditional Offers Made

2016 – 131
2017 – 88
2018 – 69

4) Number of Places

Please note that the number of places is different to the number of registered students. Our target (ie number of places) is flexible as we may over or under recruit for one of two reasons:
- more or less people than we expected met the conditions of their offers or put us as their firm or insurance choice.
- if another area of the faculty has over or under recruited, we make up for a shortfall elsewhere.

These target numbers are:

2016 – 220
2017 – 247
2018 – 279

5) Mean number of A* predicted grades for those sitting the A-Level, of whom received an offer

6) Mean number of A* achieved grades for those who sat the A-Level, of whom received an offer

7) Mean number of A* achieved grades at GCSE, of whom received an offer

8) Number of offer holders who bear Further Mathematics as a fourth A-Level

We estimate that to search for the information you have requested in questions 5, 6, 7 and 8 would exceed the appropriate limit for a Freedom of Information request. The reason for this is that this data is not stored in a way in which it can be easily extracted and we would need to review each application individually to search for this information.

The Act sets a maximum cost of £450 for public authorities responding to requests for information which represents the estimated cost of one person working for 3.5 days in determining whether the information is held, locating it, and retrieving it. Under Section 12 of the Act the University is not obliged to comply with a request that would exceed the appropriate limit and we are therefore unable to process this part of your request any further.

If you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled and wish to request a review of our response or to make a complaint, please see the attached information sheet and form.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any enquiries regarding this email.

Yours sincerely,
Karen Page
