KSIs - New Road/Union Street, Chatham

The request was partially successful.

Dear Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership,

How many KSIs have there been in the 36 months prior to the installation of the two new digital Gatsos on New Road, Chatham (around the junction with Union Street).

I understand that these new cameras were installed in November 2018.

Yours faithfully,

Jonathan Allison

rogers, chris,

Dear Mr Allison,
Your request for information about the camera site on A2 New Road Chatham (near Union Street junction) has been passed to me by the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership although they hold the basic information for every site across the county of Kent (Kent Police area). Their website: http://www.kmscp.org/pages/multimedia/db... shows that this site had recorded six incidents in which someone was killed or seriously injured over a three year period prior to its installation.

The site was agreed with the Department for Transport in 2002 for their funding to install and maintain, and the original devices were erected in 2003 as part of the national 'netting-off' hypothecation scheme that was running at that time (terminated in 2007). As you have noticed there are now new devices on New Road to replace the original two (but the old one on the central reservation has not yet been removed). For health and safety reasons the Police did not wish to continue with a camera on the central reservation so the eastbound one is now on the traffic island where it is easier to get to.

You may have noticed that many of the cameras have been replaced with new devices across Kent and Medway. That program is likely to be completed this year and we're expecting the last sites in Medway to be renewed in March.

We have not yet processed and checked Police crash records for all of 2018, but we do have information available up to the end of July 2018. In the three years up to and including July 2018 there have been seven incidents resulting in serious injury on the length of A2 that is monitored in connection with this camera site.

I trust this information is to your satisfaction, however, if you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original request and should be addressed to: Information Governance Manager, Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TR., or email [email address].

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

yours sincerely,
