Knowsley Boundary/Councillor
Dear Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council,
Can you tell me if the Knowsley Boundary changes go ahead, and there's a reduction of Borough Councillors, how will it be decided which elected Councillors will lose their role.
AND if at that time there are elected Councillors who are NOT Labour Councillors (Independent), how will their future be decided.
Yours faithfully,
Paul of the Woods Family

Dear Mr Woods,
Freedom of Information request F2014-04-214
We have looked into your request for information about Knowsley boundary/Councillor, and our response is shown below.
Should changes in the number of Borough Councillors, warding arrangements, etc, be recommended by the Local Government Boundary Commission, as part of the process the Boundary Commission will make arrangements for a draft order to be laid before both Houses of Parliament to enact their recommendations. This order and the subsequent statutory instrument will provide that any changes will come into force at the next elections and that these elections must be held on the basis of whole-council elections.
This will mean that all Borough Councillors in office at that time will retire and then all seats introduced by the new arrangements will be contested and filled on the same election day.
The usual Notice of Election, nomination process, etc will take place and candidates standing in the whole-council election will be those who have submitted their valid nomination papers. Electors in each new ward will be able to vote for up to 3 candidates on the ballot paper at the election. Therefore the election of all Borough Councillors (whether being returned to office or newly elected) following any changes to the number of Borough Councillors will be decided by the electorate as part of the statutory elections process.
Further information on the process that will be followed for the boundary review can be found on the Boundary Commission's web page http://www.lgbce.org.uk/
If you need further information please see contact details below.
Kind regards,
