Dear Kirklees Borough Council,

Please could you supply me with information you hold relating to the obstruction of this public footpath at West Royd and The Knowl. Please could you include numbers and dates of reports from the public, records of what action the council took in response to these reports, details of any meetings or discussions between council officers or departments and between the council and landowners on this issue.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Freedom Info,

Thank you for the response and information provided. I would ask for an internal review regarding the information covered by the refusal notice.

There is a great deal of public interest in how Kirklees Council manages its public rights of way and in particular how the council regularly permits rights of way to be obstructed for decades (30 years in the case of Kirkburton Footpath 153/10), how the council fails to take action when these matters are reported by the public, how the council fails to take action when it's own officers point out obstructed rights of way in the planning process (this has happened twice in the case of Kirkburton Footpath 153/10) and the failure of Kirklees Council to properly consider public rights of way in the planning process both historically and at the present time.

Operating in this manner is creating unnecessary and significant costs to the public purse and adversely affecting owners of private property. It is therefore in the public interest to make public these cases in the hope that Kirklees Council will make improvements.

There is no need to make anyone's personal details public in dealing with this request. Simply list the number of requests from the public, councillors etc reporting problems of obstruction on Kirkburton Footpath 153/10,the precise location & description of the issue, the year the requests were received and what action Kirklees Council took on receiving the requests.

Yours sincerely,

ALeader
