KIRAT assessments
Dear Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner,
KIRAT [Kent internet risk assessment tool] is referred to in this recently published HMICFRS report:
An inspection of how well the police and National Crime Agency tackle the online
sexual abuse and exploitation of children
HMICFRS 5/4/23
'Officers and staff use KIRAT when they suspect a man of possessing or distributing child sexual abuse imagery. The tool helps them assess how likely the suspect is to commit physical offences against children. Once they have completed the assessment, the tool gives a risk grading that should help forces prioritise cases in line with recommended timescales.
...
Once forces have completed a KIRAT assessment, the recommended timescales for
activity are:
• very-high risk: 24 hours
• high risk: 7 days
• medium risk: 14 days
• low risk: 30 days.' (p27)
https://www.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/...
1. For the year 2021/22, please provide the number of KIRAT assessments you completed categorised by risk.
2. Please provide the number of children (some of whom may have had multiple assessments) these assessments are related to.
Yours faithfully,
J Roberts
