Dear Hannah Garrett
Freedom of Information Request - RFI20200753
Thank you for your request to the BBC of 12 June 2020 seeking the following information
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (‘the Act’):
My mother was in an episode of Kilroy in approx 1992. Her name is Lorraine Garrett and her mother
is Jean Jenner. They were in an episode about having a clean house vs a dirty house. Is it possible to
get a copy of the episode?
The information you have requested is excluded from the Act because it is held for the
purposes of ‘journalism, art or literature.’ The BBC is therefore not obliged to provide this
information to you and wil not be doing so on this occasion. Part VI of Schedule 1 to FOIA
provides that information held by the BBC and the other public service broadcasters is only
covered by the Act if it is held for ‘purposes
other than those of journalism, art or literature”.
The BBC is not required to supply information held for the purposes of creating the BBC’s
output or information that supports and is closely associated with these creative activities.
However, we can inform you that the BBC has a process for accessing archive material for
those that appeared in BBC programmes. More details as well as an application form can be
found at the following lin
k: https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/questions/programme-
information/contributor-access. However, in this case, as you may have been considered as ‘in
the picture’ rather than actual y contributing to the programme we should inform you that
this route may offer little help.
The only other two possibilities are the British Library, and the British Film Institute, both of
whom hold archival footage on behalf of the BBC. Due to the volume of footage the BBC
broadcasts, it is not possible to keep an entire archive collection of material, which is why
archival footage is deposited with these two organisations.
