Dear Danny,

In response to your request made under the Freedom of Information Act
2000, please find attached a copy of the list of fire appliances currently
operated by KFRS, which includes latest base location, registration
numbers and make/model (pump, rescue pump ladder, heavy rescue pump and
aerial appliance).

However, the vehicles’ callsigns have not been provided. This is because
Kent Fire & Rescue Service is part of the Critical National
Infrastructure. As an emergency service, an attack designed to misdirect,
misallocate or hinder the use of our fire appliances (and other assets)
could have a major detrimental impact on the availability, integrity or
delivery of our essential services – including those services whose
integrity, if compromised, could result in significant loss of life or
casualties.

To be able to allocate resources as effectively as possible, we need to be
able to communicate about such matters in a way that limits the potential
for malicious actors to cause disruption to our resource mobilising,
resource allocation and wider incident response. The use of callsigns
offers us this means.

Consequently, we are of the reasonably held view that to release into the
public domain the list of callsigns used by KFRS could undermine our
ability to effectively allocate and co-ordinate our fire appliances and
other resources. This information is therefore excluded under Section 24
of the Freedom of Information Act.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request, you may ask
for an internal review. Information about our review process is available
via the following link on our website.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
5AF

Kind regards

Owain

Dear Information Officer,

Thank you for getting back to me, with regards the callsigns could I at least have information as to whether Heavy Rescue Pumps have a different callsign from what Rescue Pumps have? As a example is one always labelled say **R1 and the other type of rescue pump labelled say **R3 even if the latter is the only rescue pump of any sort based at that station?

Yours sincerely,

Danny Chatfield

Hello Danny,

For the reasons set out below, I'm afraid that we’re not in a position to
provide any information on callsigns.

Kind regards
