JSP 950 Strict Eyesight Requirements
Dear Royal Navy,
In the current JSP 950 guidelines under EYES PRE ENTRY 2. (3)(a), it states that you are unfit if:
"Refractive errors:
(a) Spherical Equivalent (ESE) greater than +5.00 or -6.00 dioptres.
(b) Cylindrical error greater than +3.00 or -3.00 dioptres in any meridian. Where the cylindrical error is greater than +/- 3.00 but less then +/- 5.00 dioptres, refer to footnotes.
My question is what is the justification for the cylindrical error limit being so low, as this is not a particularly extreme amount of astigmatism. If a canditate can pass the eye test and snellen chart, and their corrective vision also is within standard, why should a person with a cylindrical error of 3.25 be rejected?.
Also, are there going to be any changes to the JSP 950 in 2025? And may you considering lowering the eyesight requirements to accompany for those applications who have a small error of 0.25?
Yours Faithfully,
Andrews.
Dear Marc,
Please see the attached.
