Joint technical note on the comparison of EU and UK positions on citizens rights 2017 October
Dear Department for Exiting the European Union
Please could you supply (or publish at https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...) the results of your October negotiations on post-Brexit E27 and UK citizens’ rights – either as an update table in the style of https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/sy... or in some other electronic format if you intend to cease publication of such technical notes in a tabular format.
Yours faithfully
Dr Michael A Ward

Dear Department for Exiting the European Union
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Exiting the European Union's handling of my FOI request 'Joint technical note on the comparison of EU and UK positions on citizens rights 2017 October'.
Your response - that I should follow DExEU on Twitter: @DExEUgov - is not a response to the request I submitted.
I already follow @DExEUgov on twitter and, as I made clear in my request, you have *not* published the results of the *October* talks at https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio....
Please could you supply me with the is information or publish it on your website.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/j...
Yours faithfully
Dr Michael A Ward
Dear Dr Michael A Ward,
We believe there may have been a misunderstanding. What you received was
not our response to your request, but a confirmation of receipt. Your case
remains live and we will respond within 20 working days of receiving your
request.
We would therefore be grateful if you could confirm this to be the case
and withdraw the internal review.
Kind regards,
DExEU FOI Team

Dear DEXEU Freedom of Information Team Mailbox,
If you are still intending to respond to my request, I am happy to withdraw my review.
I shall submit a new request for the 'Joint technical note on the comparison of EU and UK positions on citizens rights 2017 November documents' - which are also missing from your website and now due.
Yours sincerely
Dr Michael A Ward

Dear DEXEU Freedom of Information Team Mailbox
Thank you for your refusal to respond and your explanation for your refusal..
Meanwhile I have been in touch with the EU Commission who got straight
back to me (rather than waiting the maximum allowed time) and explained the actual situation:
"Dear Dr Ward,
Thank you for your interest in the Brexit negotiations and in particular citizens' rights.
Please note that during the 5th round of the negotiations (9-12 October) both sides further discussed the
joint technical note as established during the 4th round of the negotiations (25-28 September). The
discussion enabled both sides to consolidate the progress of earlier negotiating rounds. However, the
negotiators did not make any significant progress in the main areas of divergence, therefore the joint
technical note was not updated on the website, where you can find the version published on 28
September:
https://ec.europa.eu/commission/publicat...
Following the 5th round of the negotiations, Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier, presented the main outcome
of the negotiations, including citizens' rights in a public statement on 12 October:
http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_STA...
The statement about the outcome of the 6th round of the negotiations (9-10 November) can be found
here:
http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_SPE...
In addition you can find more information about the ongoing Brexit negotiations on our website:
https://ec.europa.eu/commission/brexit-n...
Yours sincerely,
European Commission"
It is a shame your Department cannot be as truthful, open, and transparent as the EU.
Yours sincerely
Dr Michael A Ward
Dear Department for Exiting the European Union,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Exiting the European Union's handling of my FOI request 'Joint technical note on the comparison of EU and UK positions on citizens rights 2017 October'.
The reasons provided for the refusal were (if the EU's version of events it to be believed) entirely untrue and they have put the information I requested (which turns out to be that *no* progress was made in the 2017 October negotiations) in the public domain and informed me of this. I see no grounds for your continued refusal to put this information in the public domain yourself.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/j...
Yours faithfully,
Dr Michael A Ward
