Dear The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation,

Under the FOIA 2000, please supply the following information.

The Meningitis Research Foundation petition (MVB 01) in respect of the Bexsero vaccine to the Parliamentary Petitions Committee raises issues with the current rules by which the JCVI works.

Why does the most recent list of members Declarations of Interest attached to the draft JCVI Minutes (4/10/17) not include the fact that the Chairman, Professor Andrew Pollard is listed as a “researcher” for the charity on their website for a study which commenced on 1st July 2017, “Preventing meningitis in teenagers vaccinated against Men B as babies: is one booster dose enough”?

Yours faithfully,

Angus Files

Dear FOI,

12/03/mu/955

Your response to the above referenced FOIA request ( 5th April 2018 ) does not address the issue I raised in that I questioned why it was that Professor Pollards Declaration of Interests attached to the Minutes of the 4th October 2017 meeting did not include his role as researcher with the MRF which according to their website, had a start date of 1st July 2017 for the study “Preventing meningitis in teenagers vaccinated against Men B as babies:is one booster dose enough? In response you have stated that ........"As neither of these studies had begun prior to the February 2018 JCVI meeting declaration, they are not within Professor Pollard's published declarations of interest". Clearly the study had commenced prior to the February 2018 meeting since the MRF had listed him as a researcher on the study as of 1st July 2017 and Professor Pollard had included it in his EMA declaration dated 23rd January 2018 where his declaration included " Grant from Meningitis Research Foundation to study a booster dose of Bexsero in teenagers (2018-current)".

I would be grateful if you would address the question since it seems certain that the study and the provision of a grant to Professor Pollards place of work were both instigated before the Feb 2018 JCVI meeting.

Yours sincerely,

Angus Files

Dear FOI,

Dear Mr Files

Thank you for your email dated 9 May 2018.

The response you received case reference 12/03/mu/955 sets out the information held by PHE. As previously stated, this grant does not restrict Professor Pollard’s participation in any JCVI activities.
