IT Support Services

The request was partially successful.

Dear University College, Oxford,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information requests.

I would like to request the following breakdown of the college's hardware maintenance and costs:

A list of the models of the physical servers, storage devices, tape libraries, network switches and routers under support contracts; as well as the cost and duration of said contracts, with start and end dates and service level associated with the equipment. Could you also supply the names of the suppliers of aforementioned support services?

I would also request the name of the person/s in your organisation responsible for the maintenance support contracts.

Yours faithfully,

John Wicker

Dear Mr Wicker

Further to my email below, I can confirm that the College holds the information requested. However, we are withholding most of that information since we consider that the exceptions under sections 31(1)(b), 36 and 43 apply to it.

After carefully considering your request, our decision is that disclosing details of the technical hardware in your request would place the College at risk of hacking, thereby compromising the integrity of our security systems. Our view is that this outweighs any public interest that would be served by providing the information and, therefore, we are declining to provide it under sections 31(1)(b) (prevention or detection of crime) and 36 (prejudice to the effective conduct of public affairs).

We consider details of support contracts that we have negotiated with a third party to be commercially sensitive information and therefore exempt under section 43 (commercial interests). However, we can confirm that the contracts currently in place are due to expire in February 2012, February 2013 and August 2016.

The person in this organisation responsible for the maintenance support contracts is the IT Manager, who can be contacted via the details provided on the College's Computing & IT weblink.
