Dear Mr Wickers

Freedom of Information Request 2012 006

Thank you for your recent request that was submitted under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 which was received into this office on the.26 January
2012.

The information that you are seeking is in relation to the following:

I would like to request the following breakdown of the University's
hardware maintenance and costs:

1.         A list of the models of the physical servers, storage devices,
tape libraries, network switches and routers under support contracts;

2.         (a) as well as the cost and
(b) duration of said contracts,

3.         with start and end dates and service level associated with the
equipment.

4.         Could you also supply the names of the suppliers of
aforementioned support services?

5.         I would also request the name of the person/s in your
organisation responsible for the maintenance support contracts.

Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) places two duties
on public authorities. Unless exemptions apply, the first duty at, Section
1(1) (a), is to confirm or deny whether the information specified in a
request is held. The second duty at, Section1 (1) (b), is to disclose
information that has been confirmed as being held.

Under the provisions of those sections of FOIA, I can confirm that the
information you have requested is held by the University of Wales, and
therefore we are able to comply with your request to supply that
information in part.

Part (a) to question 2 has been declined as the following exemption
applies – 41 Information provided in confidence.  To disclose the costs of
contracts that we have engaged in would breach our confidentiality clause
within the terms of those agreements.

However under the Freedom of Information Act section 16 we have a duty to
provide advice and assistance, and therefore what we are able to provide
is the annual budget set by the University of Wales to cover all its I.T
equipment, which is currently £89k. I would also like to draw to your
attention that the University is in advance merger discussions with the
University of Wales Trinity Saint David and Swansea Metropolitan
University, and it is unlikely that maintenance agreements will be
continued in the same fashion, but will be subject to new arrangements for
the new merged University, details of which are not available at present.

The attached spread sheet will provide the information you require for
questions 1, 2(b), 3 and 4.

To answer question 5, the person responsible within University of Wales
for the maintenance support contracts is Mr Wayne Whittle.

I believe this to be a full and complete response to your enquiry under
the Act but please feel free to come back to me for clarification or
further information.

If you are unhappy at the way your enquiry has been handled you may write
to the Vice Chancellor, University Registry, King Edward VII Ave, CARDIFF
CF10 3NS.

Failing that, you may apply to the Information Commissioner's Office,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF

Yours sincerely
