Islington Valuation Information

Peter CAIN made this Freedom of Information request to Valuation Office Agency

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Valuation Office Agency,

Without wishing to overburden anyone, we are hoping to do an analysts on London Borough of Islington (LBI) residential properties (only) ..

We do not know exactly what information VOA holds, and what it can disclose, and what it can disclose in a format that is easy for the VOA to provide ..

We would like the information in electronic format, as it is easier to analyse ..

We would like as much information as possible in as much detail as possible, but do not wish to be denied this request because the request itself is too broad, etc. ..

We appreciate that are many residential properties in LBI, and so may be a tall order to provide (though not for us to analyse) ..

What can VOA supply ?.
Area?
Address? Postcode?
CT band?

So, for example, grouping by postcode, CT band and number of properties at that band (by postcode) could be an option if area if not available ..

Kind regards

Peter Cain

Dear Valuation Office Agency,

Many thanks for this ..

Some of the information below cannot be found: broken /incomplete links ..

We are NOT interested in existing statistics ..

We need to derive our own from the RAW data .. Ideally down to each residential address ..

What does VOA hold that can be provided ?.

The minimum is the full address and CT band .. Ideally we would like any record of area that VOA may hold ..

Yours faithfully,

Peter CAIN

Dear Mr Cain

Our ref: 11748755.2/CEO

As you maybe aware we the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) compile and
maintain the Council Tax valuation lists (One list per a billing
authority) for England and Wales. N.B. In Scotland council tax are
dealt with by the Scottish Assessors.

We have publish the Council Tax band of every domestic property in
England and Wales that has been banded for Council Tax purposes. We have
placed this information on our website in searchable application. You
can view/use this application by clicking on the attached link
http://www.voa.gov.uk/ and selecting "Check your council tax band" icon
from the "direct gov" menu. You can now search for the banding of any
domestic property in England and Wales property that has been banded for
Council Tax purposes by postcode. To conduct a search for properties in
the CT lists using parameters other than postcode you can select
"advanced Search" option on the same screen. Using this option you can
look for the banding of a property by search parameters such as Street
Name, Post code (partial) and Local Authority.

If this does not meet your requirements and you are looking to obtain a
copy of every council tax list please let me know. I hope you find this
helpful.

Kind regards

Dear Christopher,

I found this site previously, which is why we know it is already in the public domain ..
BUT (i), as I am sure you can appreciate, it is NOT in a format suitable for bulk extraction .. It could take months to port every entry .. A very unnecessary feat when the data must already available in bulk load format ..
and (ii), you have given no indication what other information is available for disclosure .. I.e. area, where available ..

Many thanks ..

Kind regards

Thank you for this, and your prompt responses ..

At your convenience please let me know what detail you can supply, if anything over and above the CT band ..

Remember, we only want Islington .. I am assuming that you already have a format by which you supply local government .. A copy of this, and in your standard format may well suffice perfectly ..

Kind regards

Peter Cain

Dear Valuation Office Agency,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Valuation Office Agency's handling of my FOI request 'Islington Valuation Information'.

The letter is almost illegible .. I trust that the crux of this review request is therefore correct ..

We are not asking for anything that should not be released, and never have done so ..

You refer to a link which reveals that we are we asking for into the public domain .. We are asking that the information be made available in a form that WE can use to analyse, without having to waste enormous amounts of time extracting in small numbers ..

We are therefore guessing that the main reason for your answer is that you do not wish to provide the information for administrative reasons, as opposed to there being any legal duty not to provide ..

Please therefore provide all information as requested ..

Kind regards

Peter Cain

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:
