Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like written confirmation or denial concerning whether or not water in Wales is fluoridated.

If so, i require all details held as to when fluoridation began , precise dates, at which water treatment centres, the amounts and over what periods. I require information of who authorised the process and what Act or statutes gave authority for forced medication of all citizens without warning or consent

Yours faithfully,without ill-will , vexation or frivolity

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Welsh Water (Dwr Cymru Cyfyngedig)'s handling of my FOI request 'Is Welsh water fluoridated?'.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Jones Fleur, Welsh Water

Dear Sirs,

Firstly I must apologise that your request for information was overlooked.

I can confirm however that Welsh Water does not fluoridate its water supplies.

The recent Water Act 2003 has changed the decision-making process regarding whether fluoridation of water supplies should take place. Historically, Health Authorities have only been able to request fluoridation and the water companies have been able to agree or refuse the request.

The Water Act 2003 amends the Water Industry Act 1991 which now states that water companies must follow the instruction of the Health Authority or in Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government. It does not now give the green light to water companies to fluoridate but means that, as stated above, the decision making process sits with those directly accountable to their local population. In practice in Wales this is likely to mean that decisions will rest with the National Assembly for Wales.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water do not fluoridate any of our water supplies and we have not received any indication that the National Assembly for Wales intend to ask us to fluoridate any water supplies.

The Water Industry Act 1991, as amended, also requires the Welsh Assembly Government to consult fully with consumers in the area where fluoridation is being considered. Further regulations, yet to be made, are expected to detail the consultation process, but under the Act the water company is to be consulted only in relation to operational issues.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water as an organisation has no views on the merits or otherwise of fluoridating water supplies. We will follow the line taken by government and will comply with our legal requirements.

If you have any further queries in respect of this query, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Fleur Jones

"Historically, Health Authorities have only been able to request fluoridation and the water companies have been able to agree or refuse the request."

Have any specifics been provided by Welsh Water as to any agreements to grant fluoridation before the legislation of 2003? There seems to be a black hole of 12yrs between '91 and '03!

It seems we are lucky here in wales then as our water is not being deliberatley poisoned by the 'goverment'
i hope that this does not change it gives me good reason to stay here. avoiding population control
