Dear Mr Fryer

Thank you for submitting a request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.  Please find the response below in red font. This
response covers the hospitals and services managed by the Royal Free
London NHS Foundation Trust, namely the Royal Free Hospital, Barnet
Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital and associated group services.

The response

How many patients have received an iron infusion in the last 12 months?
This response is based on data from the trust’s pharmacy team.  Please
note that a number of the Iron infusions are supplied as stock (bulk) to
departments, so the exact patient-specific data is not available on the
pharmacy JAC information system.

Data covers JAC issues of Monofer and Ferinject made from 01/02/2019 to
31/01/2020.

Where the patient data is available, the numbers are as follows:

Drug Number of patients
FERRIC CARBOXYMALTOSE ie Ferinject 469
IRON ISOMALTOSIDE  ie Monofer 942

Drugfull drug_packsize Total

How many patients have been treated with Monofer and how many with
Ferinject? Please see the above table but note limitations in that iron
infusions are supplied as stock products to clinical areas so only units
issued to named patients is identified.

What was the average weight of these patients?   This data is not
centrally recorded rather will be data held in individual patient records.

How many patients required more than 1 gram of iron? Data not recorded in
Pharmacy.
