IPP prisoners maintaining their innocence

The request was refused by Ministry of Justice.

Dear Sir or Madam,

On 5th October 2009 the Ministry of Justice advised that 162 prisoners serving an indeterminate sentence for public protection were recorded as having a tariff of less than 2 years. Please advise how many of these 162 prisoners are maintaining their innocence.

Yours faithfully,

Mary May

Dear Ministry of Justice,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Ministry of Justice's handling of my FOI request 'IPP prisoners maintaining their innocence'.

I have received a response which is unsatisfactory. The information requested has not been supplied.

I am only interested in the 162 prisoners and whether they maintain their innocence for all or any part of the charges. I believe this information could be obtained easily, and within the budget described, by using the NOMIS computerised system - a search for 'innocence' should not be too time consuming.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,
