iPlayer "records"

A Willmore made this Freedom of Information request to British Broadcasting Corporation Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was partially successful.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

Recent letters received by those genuinely not needing a TV Licence have included the text "However, our records show someone has used BBC iPlayer on a number of occasions over recent weeks".

As an IT professional, I am intrigued as to how this information is obtained and feel sure that the process of doing so must be fully documented, together with further documentation of how the data can be interpreted and assigned to an individual property.

I would be grateful for copies of any documentation that you have, together with some sample (but unidentifiable) examples of the "records" mentioned above.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Mr A Willmore

Nothing in the Iplayer privacy policy that the BBC provided to you mentions anything about using your details to check for licensing.

So unlike the BBC to tell porky pies. Maybe they need to get BBC verify to respond instead. Oh but they are also tell porkies. Maybe a BBC verify verified is needed.
