Involvement of the Church

The request was partially successful.

Dear East Coast Main Line Company Limited,

Please can you supply any information held by yourselves into the decision to include the church in any of your recent ceremonies over the past 18 months. This includes but not limited to the opening of Wakefield Westgate, naming ceremonies & internal newsletters.

Please supply any communication between EC and also church representatives and rationale towards only having representation from the church and no other religious organisation.

Please can you also supply details on why EC felt that the church was needed at these events.

Does EC donate to the church or any religious organisations and if so can the financial details be supplied.

Do any staff attending your events get any say on which religious representatives attend ?

Yours faithfully,

Michael

Dear Michael,

Having reviewed your Freedom of Information request below, we have identified that the time required to collate this information would exceed the appropriate cost limit. This is primarily because the request includes all communications between East Coast, and this would therefore include all East Coast employees as there is a railway chaplaincy service that all operators have access too.

May I therefore suggest the following refined request, which will still hopefully provide you with the information you require:

- To provide any information held by East Coast concerning the decision to include the church in any ceremony over the past 18 months. This includes, but is not limited to, the opening of Wakefield Westgate station, train naming ceremonies and internal newsletters;
- To provide any communications between East Coast and the church in regards to the above ceremonies;
- To provide any communications concerning the involvement of other religious organisations in the above ceremonies;
- To provide any recorded information detailing why East Coast felt that the church was needed at these events;
- To provide any recorded information concerning financial contributions from East Coast to any religious organisation; and
- To provide any internal communications requesting staff feedback on which religious representatives should attend any of the above ceremonies.

As you will be aware, the Freedom of Information Act (2000) concerns recorded information. As some of the original enquiries concerned questions, rather than requests for such information, we have amended the requests slightly so that they are covered by the Act. I trust this is acceptable.

As soon as we receive confirmation that the above is acceptable, or a revised, permissable, request, we will collate the information.

Yours sincerely,

Matt Short

I have marked this request as having been refused by East Coast Main Line Company Limited on the basis that it has said that the request would exceed the appropriate cost limit, which is a technical refusal under the Act.
