Investments held by the GMC

We're waiting for Ian Clayton to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear General Medical Council,

It is well established within the public domain that the General Medical Council have held and perhaps still hold incestments in (a) AstraZeneca and (b) Merck, as well as other pharmaceutical organisationns, as was revealed in the response a 2023 FOIA request raised by the British Medical Journal.

I would now please, like to request the following:

(1) Full details of the amount of the financial investments made in each respective organisation referred to above.

(2) Fill details of when the investments were made in the said organisations referred to bybthe GMC.

(3) Confirmation that investments are still held in such organisations referred to by the GMC, or, if not, then the date(s) upon which the GMC withdrew from the holding of such investment(s).

Thank you for your email of 11 October asking for information regarding
the GMC’s investments in AstraZeneca, Merck, and other pharmaceutical
organisations. I’ve considered your request under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

For the purposes of the response, we have defined pharmaceutical companies
in accordance with the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS)
sub-industries classification for pharmaceutical stocks.

(1) Full details of the amount of the financial investments made in each respective organisation referred to above.

We currently hold shares in the following pharmaceutical companies:

AstraZeneca: 864 shares with a net market value of £100,880 (amounting to 0.16% of our investment portfolio) as of 29 October 2024.

Novo Nordisk: 885 shares with a net market value of £75,202 (amounting to 0.12% of our investment portfolio) as of 29 October 2024.

(2) Full details of when the investments were made in the said organisations referred to by the GMC.

(3) Confirmation that investments are still held in such organisations referred to by the GMC, or, if not, then the date(s) upon which the GMC withdrew from the holding of such investment(s).

Regarding points (2) and (3) of your request, the table below sets out the
first and last trade date of each holding in pharmaceutical
companies. Where a date of sale is given, the stocks are no longer held.
The grey rows denote stocks that are still held, therefore there is no
date of sale.
