International recruitment
Dear Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust,
Can you please tell me if the trust used agencies to recruit international nurses, Therapists and doctors during 2018 & 2019?
Did you use agencies that were not on the framework?
If the trust did use agencies, can you tell me how many nurses, Therapists and Doctors were recruited and how much was spent recruiting overseas nurses via both framework and off framework agencies?
Can I also have the total cost to recruit one international nurse/Therapist/Doctor and what upfront costs the trust incurred?
Yours faithfully,
Kevin Keenan

Dear Kevin Keenan,
Thank you for your recent request for information under the Freedom of
Information (FOI) Act 2000.
We are now in a position to respond to your request.
Your request:
1. Can you please tell me if the trust used agencies to recruit
international nurses, Therapists and doctors during 2018 & 2019?
2. Did you use agencies that were not on the framework?
3. If the trust did use agencies, can you tell me how many nurses,
Therapists and Doctors were recruited and how much was spent recruiting
overseas nurses via both framework and off framework agencies?
4. Can I also have the total cost to recruit one international
nurse/Therapist/Doctor and what upfront costs the trust incurred?
Our response:
Under Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Trust
can confirm that it holds information relevant to your request and this
has been provided where possible below.
1. The Trust does not have a supplier for international nurse recruitment
projects at this stage, although international recruits continued to
arrive from recruitment carried out before this date, but utilises a
number of suppliers on an “as and when” required basis. We have used
Remedium for the doctors and consultants.
2. No
3. 8 Doctors were appointed through Remedium.
4. The upfront costs for a Nurse can be approximately £3,000 for a
deployment from outside of the EU, this would not include costs for
Certificates of Sponsorship or Visas. Placement fee with an agency for
doctors is £7-10k dependant on grade.
