Inspection and Maintenance of Road markings

The request was partially successful.

Dear Lambeth Borough Council,

Please can you provide the following details:

1. Dates of inspection of road markings at the junction of Clapham Park Road with Abbeville Road over the past 3 years.

2. Whether the dates of these inspections were in compliance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges: Volume 8 TD 26/07.

3. What recommended actions, if any, were made to maintain the road markings, with specific reference to the left turn arrow at that junction.

Dear Mr Dawson

Thank you for your Freedom of Information Act request reference IR117630.
Please find below, and attached, the response to the information you
requested, which was:

1.  Dates of inspection of road markings at the junction of Clapham Park
Road with Abbeville Road over the past 3 years.

Both the carriageway and the footway of this road are inspected by our
Highways Section on a monthly cycle.  Please see attached document for
inspection dates.

2.  Whether the dates of these inspections were in compliance with the
Design Manual for Roads and Bridges: Volume 8 TD 26/07.

The Highways Section has stated that the inspections are carried out in
accordance with the Highway maintenance policy from 2011.

3.  What recommended actions, if any, were made to maintain the road
markings,  with specific reference to the left turn arrow at that
junction.

The Highways Section has raised a works orders to refresh the faded arrows
and giveway markings at this traffic light controlled junction.  The
scheduled completion date is 25 August 2015.

4.  Why the left turn arrow at that junction has been allowed to
deteriorate so that it is barely visible.

The Highways Section advise that when they carry out safety inspections on
the carriageway and footway they tend to look for pothole defects or trip
hazards etc. more than looking at road markings.
