Inpatient mental health bed closures
Dear Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust,
In the last 10 years, please could you state
1] How many wards have been closed by your Trust in total?
2] Please list names of the wards closed, describe if they were adult/ old age/ forensic etc; their location and specify the number of bed lost with each of these wards?
3] How many new wards were opened by your Trust in total?
4] Please list names of the wards opened, describe if they were adult/ old age/ forensic etc, their location and specify the number of bed lost with each of these wards?
Yours faithfully,
Dr Amit Mukherjee
Dear Amit,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - SECTION 8 REQUEST
I am writing regarding your request for information dated 17/02/2023. In
order to identify if we hold the information you have requested, we will
need to seek some further clarification from you.
I would be grateful if you could please clarify:
1] How many wards have been closed by your Trust in total?
Can you please confirm if this is referring to permanently closed mental
health wards, or does this also include temporary closures (such as any
wards that were temporarily closed during the height of the coronavirus
pandemic)?
4] Please list names of the wards opened, describe if they were adult/
old age/ forensic etc, their location and specify the number of bed lost
with each of these wards?
Should this say the number of beds gained from opening new wards (rather
than lost)?
Please note that we are unable to confirm at this time whether we hold or
will be able to provide the requested information under the terms of the
Freedom of Information Act.
Please provide me with a response by 13/03/2023. Once we have received the
further clarification needed, we will be able to process your request
further. However, please note that in the meantime your request will be
placed on hold.
Kind regards,
Information Governance Office

Dear FOI (OXLEAS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST),
I am responding to your questions above.
1] I am referring to both permanently closed mental
health wards, and to temporary closures ,such as any
wards that were temporarily closed during the height of the coronavirus
pandemic.
2] You asked--Should this say the number of beds gained from opening new wards (rather
than lost)?
It will be helpful if you just give factual information: number of beds opened, number of beds closed.
Allow the public to scrutinise themselves about the number of beds gained in the process.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Amit Mukherjee
