Dear Compliance,

I acknowledge receipt of your reply and apologise for the delay in responding.

When your body took over its responsibilities you also inhearted the previous public Authority's (PA) records and information. And most likely, for "staff as well."

If you have no obligations to disclose then a public authrity - whe the goong get rough/tough can shed their responsibilities and pass it on to another PA.
To do this will be to circumvent the FOIA legislation and make it incapable of ever working! That is not what parliament intended.

To this end you should disclose the details I requested please. Thank you

Yours sincerely,
Sarah Daniels

Dear Ms Daniels

Thank you for your recent Email.

If I may clarify the status of the Legal Ombudsman:

The Legal Ombudsman was established under the provisions of the Legal
Services Act 2007, and

Is a completely new Ombudsman scheme, commencing operation on 6 October
2010.

Hence, I am unable to grant your request for information relating to SRA /
SDT decisions and

details of in-house solicitors, barristers and legal executives for the
last 15 years, as we did not

inherit the previous `Public Authority's,' records as you infer.

May I suggest that you try:

[1]www.Legalservices.gov.uk/ - The Legal Services Commission.

[2]www.lawsociety.org.uk/ - In relation to the Legal Complaints Service
(LCS) - Solicitors.

[3]www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/ - In relation to barristers.

For our part we employ one `General Counsel,' who is a qualified solicitor
with higher rights of audience,

Professional Indemnity Insurance (PPI) is not required as the post is
covered under the insurance of the

Legal Ombudsman. I am unable to say if other staff employed by the Legal
Ombudsman are qualified

Solicitors, barristers or legal executives as formal professional
qualifications are not a requirement of

employment by the Legal Ombudsman, but they may be held in a `personal
capacity.'

Regards,
