Information Strategy & modernisation of IT infrastructure

Tim Bannister made this Freedom of Information request to Office for National Statistics

Waiting for an internal review by Office for National Statistics of their handling of this request.

From: Tim Bannister

10 August 2011

Dear Office for National Statistics,

Page 9 of Making Open Data Real: A Public Consultation[1] refers to
“revision of existing Information Strategies to be published in
refreshed departmental business plans”. I look forward to the
publication of these next year, including that for the ONS.
I would like to have a copy of the ONS' current Information
Strategy. Please could you send me a copy, or if the document is
already available online then let me know the URL.

The ONS has a current(?) programme or project titled Flex according
to the published Programmes and Projects list[2]. Please could you
send me the project mandate and any other documents that set out
the goals and / or criteria for success of this programme or
project.

Yours faithfully,

Tim Bannister

Dear Paul Wearn,

Thank you for this information. I'd asked for any documents that
set out the goals and / or criteria for success of the Flex
project.

To clarify my original request: the document you have supplied
states that CSF1 is met if “FJS delivers the required solutions to
agreed timescales and budget”.
I would ask ONS to tell me the agreed timescales and budget for
this project; you can do this by sending me the relevant documents
or simply quoting that specific section, so long as you provide
these details.

Yours sincerely,

Tim Bannister

Dear Office for National Statistics,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Office for National
Statistics's handling of my FOI request 'Information Strategy &
modernisation of IT infrastructure'.

I have received a partial response but not all the information that
I requested. ONS have not yet explained why I have only received
some of the information nor provided an official response to my
clarification of 2011-09-23. The relevant legislation makes it
clear, I believe, that ONS should already have responded to my
request. There is also a presumption in favour of disclosure with
the onus on ONS to explain why a request might need to be declined.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is
available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Tim Bannister

Dear Mr Bannister,

Thank you for you email of 29th October 2011 asking for an internal review
of your case. The ONS Internal Reviewer has asked me to write to you to
let you know that such a review is currently underway.
In the interim I am able to provide the following information about the
timescales of the Flex project.

The two key timescales are that

* Complete data centre changes were due to be completed by end March
2011 - this was actually achieved on the 9th April
* Complete workstation changes within the Office to be completed by 14
December 2011.

We are currently in discussions with the business area to see if any
additional information in response to your request with regards to the
budgets and success criteria. I hope to be able to write to you shortly
with a fuller response,

Your Sincerely,

Nicola Shearman

Dear FOI Team,

I'm following up this request which I originally made in 2011. I
have received most of the information that I had requested.

Can you tell me the outcome of the internal review? If ONS holds
additional information and you are able to provide it, please do.

Yours sincerely,

Tim Bannister
