Information relating to the proposal for a new leisure centre

We're waiting for Karen Hart to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Spelthorne Borough Council,

I am seeking answers to the following questions/areas of concern I have over the proposal for a new leisure centre:

1. Why the criteria for choosing a potential site omits impacts as a result of building a new leisure centre (eg, environmental factors, infrastructure constraints, etc)
2. What other sites were considered as a potential location, and why were they all discarded.
3. Why the consultation makes no mention of refurbishing the current leisure centre; if this was not a viable option, why and how was this decision arrived at, and who had the final say on ensuring this was omitted from public consultation documents.
4. Why the consultation makes no mention of building a new leisure centre on the site of the current centre, and the adjacent field; if this was not a viable option, why and how was this decision arrived at, and who had the final say on ensuring this was omitted from public consultation documents.
5.Why there is a need to have two council-run leisure centres in the Borough.
6. What the future plans for Sunbury Leisure Centre are.
7. I am concerned about the apparent short-sightedness of a proposal that looks to destroy a large number of mature trees and green space; at a time when pollution is ever-increasing, and an airport out our doorstep set for expansion, we need all the green space we can have - I would like to understand what analysis has been done about the risks of destroying such a large green space, that protects not just us now, but our future.
8. Similarly, I would like to understand what analysis has been done regarding flooding in the area, and how destroying the flood plain will affect the area.

Yours faithfully,

Karen Hart
