Paul Perrin made this Freedom of Information request to Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency,

The BBC recently carried a report saying you had provided them with information regarding Sussex Police and Brighton and Hove council being permanently banned from accessing your database.

I have further information from Brighton and Hove Council denying that they were reprimanded in anyway by yourselves and certainly not banned.

Can you shed any light on this? Maybe by providing me with a copy of what you supplied to the BBC and any further information on any discussion/dispute you may have had with Brighton and Hove City Council?

Yours faithfully,

Paul Perrin

Dear Mr Perrin

Thank you for your e-mail requesting information. The DVLA are replying to you as routine business and not via the terms of The Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The question you asked and the relevant answer is:

The BBC recently carried a report saying you had provided them with information regarding Sussex Police and Brighton and Hove council being permanently banned from accessing your database.

I have further information from Brighton and Hove Council denying that they were reprimanded in anyway by yourselves and certainly not banned.

Please find attached a copy (Annex A) of the list the BBC had sight of. Brighton and Hove did not respond to the DVLA Audit letter which contained a list of actions/recommendations that the Local Authority had to address before DVLA could reconnect them to the system. Brighton and Hove’s link was not reconnected and this link was closed down on 24th August 2010.

It is worth noting that Brighton and Hove have a second DVLA link that they use for different reasons. There have been no issues with this 2nd link.

Kind Regards,

Without going into the nitty-gritty and with your reply, do you think B&H council, are telling porkies?

Paul Perrin left an annotation ()

M Yelland, I have asked B&H directly for their explaination
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/br...

Their original reply said 'that is what happened in this instance', but didn't properly explain what the 'instance' actually was so I certainly feel B&H are not being as open/honest/informative as they should be.

Many recent responses from them have been casual/conversational and incomplete - as if they dont take their replies/FoI seriously.
