Information on traffic flows in LS26

The request was partially successful.

Dear Leeds City Council,

Please could you send me what information you hold on traffic flows (number of vehicles and speeds if available) in the LS26 area over the last 10 years.

This should be in Excel spreadsheet, Microsoft Access or Comma Separated File format and include information on location (road and/or grid reference), date and time of day.

Yours faithfully,

Emily Shaw

Leeds City Council

Dear Richard Brook,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm slightly puzzled why you claim this would take 60 hours work as I had presumed that this sort of information would be contained within a database, which you would use regularly for traffic management.

Anyway, if I modified my request to ask for just the past 2 years, in the LS26 area (or similar geographical area such as Rothwell Ward) with just average traffic volumes and speeds, and locations, would that fall within the 18 hours limit? If not, please can you provide specific advice on how I can modify my query to make it more straightforward for you to fulfil?

Yours sincerely,

Emily Shaw

Dear Ms. Shaw,

Thank you for your response. I have spoken to our Senior Policy Monitoring officer, and he has suggested that, due to the way the Council holds its traffic data, this request would still be above the appropriate limit of 18 hours. He is, however, keen to help you with your enquiry, and is happy to discuss this matter with you over the phone in an effort to assist in refining your request.

Therefore, we would be grateful if you could contact our Administration team on 0113 2476422, who will then transfer you through to the Policy Monitoring section. It is recommended that you contact us on or after the 30th December to ensure that a member of the team will be available to assist with refining your enquirey.

Richard Brook,

Dear Richard,

Thanks for your message. I'm am glad you are keen to help. The problem with the phone option is that I am deaf and cannot communicate by phone. Could you ask the suitable person to get in touch and suggest what sort of data extract they might be able to provide?

Anything that gives data about traffic flows and speeds in the Rothwell / LS26 area will be useful for my study.

Yours sincerely,

Emily Shaw

Dear Ms. Shaw,

Please accept my apologies for the late response to your last email, however, I was unable to get into work due to the bad weather on Christmas eve, and was on holiday during the period after. I will speak to a member of the monitoring team, and respond back to you as soon as I can regarding your last correspondence.

Regards,

Richard

Dear Ms. Shaw,

Our policy monitoring team have produced a map of average traffic speeds on roads in Rothwell, which they believe may be of use to you - please see the attached file. Due to the nature of how such details are kept (if you require further information), they suggest that it may be helpful to know specifically what your study is concerning, so that we are best able to help.

Please let us know if this information is useful.

Thanks & Regards

Dear Richard,

I think the pdf map would be just fine but the pdf attachment is corrupted and cannot be read. Whatdotheyknow have also checked the file. Please could you recreate the map and send it again?

Yours sincerely,

Dear Richard,

I think the problem must be with the Whatdotheyknow site. Could you send it direct to emily.shaw.uk @ gmail.com please?

Thanks

It looks like this is the problem with the PDF - I see the same error message as described on the support website of the software package "ArcMap 9.2" that is generating the PDF:

This is a bug in WhatDoTheyKnow (to do with the way it removes email addresses from PDFs).

I've uploaded a good copy of the PDF here.

Apologies for this!
