Information on the Council's failure to set up direct debits

Oxford City Council did not have the information requested.

Dear Oxford City Council,

Can you tell me how many times in the last two years Oxford City council departments arrangements to set up direct debit payments in respect of council tax or rent owing have failed and how many people have been affected by this failure at the council's end?

In addition, can you also give me figures for the number of occasions over the last two years where the council has made multiple attempts (ie more than once) to set up a direct debit further to these being authorised by the relevant parties?

Finally, where there HAVE been problems with setting up direct debits can you clarify what has been the cause of this, and whether, further to the Council's failure to set these up, it has been flexible thereafter in arrangements for payment?

Yours faithfully,

Sharon Norris

Oxford City Council

Dear Dr Norris

Further to the acknowledgement below, I can respond to your FOI request
received on 23^rd March 2015 as follows:

The Council does not hold the information that you are seeking.  Direct
Debits fail for a number of reasons: for example, no funds in an account
or cancellation by the account holder.  Such details are not recorded by
the Council.

If you disagree with any part of the response to your request, you are
entitled to ask the Council for an internal review of the decision(s)
made.  You may do this by writing to the Monitoring Officer, by either
email – [1][email address] – or by post to Monitoring Officer,
Oxford City Council, St Aldate’s Chambers, St Aldate’s, Oxford, OX1 1DS.
After the result of the internal review, if you remain dissatisfied, you
may ask the Information Commissioner to intervene on your behalf.  You may
do this by writing to the Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely
