I require the details of the business rates in the property:
60 St James Street,
Brighton
BN2 1QG
The land registry detail the properly as being part of:
59 and 60 St James' Street and 1 Upper Rock Gardens,
and owned by:
B. & J. SHARMAN (INVESTMENTS) LIMITED (Co. Regn. No.
818632) of 37 Templars Avenue, Golders Green, London
NW11 0NU.
I would like to know the total business rates paid for the properties, and what the individual business rates are for number 60, if it were to be apportioned.
I would like to know whether 60 St James place is currently except from business rates and if it is, under what exception.
I would like to know if possible, whether 60 St. James Street is currently leased to a individual, company or organisation, and be provided their contact details.
I would like to know whether a charity or non-profit organisation taking on a lease at 60 St James Street would result in a lower business rate value than that which is currently being paid.

There are two separate entries in the rating list as follows:
Shop & Premises, 59 St James Street, Brighton, BN2 1QG Rateable Value is £8,100. 2013/14 gross rates liability = £3,742.20
Shop & Premises, 60 St James Street, Brighton, BN2 1QG Rateable Value is £4,950. 2013/14 gross rates liability = £2,286.90.
I would like to know whether 60 St James place is currently except from business rates and if it is, under what exception.
The liable party is currently receiving 100% Small Business Rate Relief.
I would like to know if possible, whether 60 St. James Street is currently leased to a individual, company or organisation, and be provided their contact details.
The liable party is an individual, their name and contact details are considered to be personal and therefore exempt from disclosure.
I would like to know whether a charity or non-profit organisation taking on a lease at 60 St James Street would result in a lower business rate value than that which is currently being paid
If a registered charity occupied the shop and was selling mainly donated goods, it would be entitled to 80% charitable rate relief. It could also apply for discretionary rate relief to top up the 80% relief. A non-profit organisation would not be entitled to the 80% charitable rate relief, but may be entitled to Small Business Rate Relief. The qualifying criteria can be found on the Council’s website here: http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/content/.... Discretionary rate relief of up to 100% of the bill could also be awarded to a non-profit organisation.
