FOI2019-043
Dear Micheal Murs,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information Act request of 15th February
2019. I have reproduced your questions below together with SOAS’s
response.
May I request information on the following questions:
1) Number of Applicants for MSc Development Studies over the last three
years
2) Offers given over the last three years
3) Number of Applicants / Offers divided into origin countries of
applicants
4) Date of Earliest Offer made
5) Date of Last Offer made
On 19th February 2019 you further clarified:
I would you like information for 2018/19, 2017/18 and 2016/17 and I wish
to apply the same dates to all questions.
Our Response
Please see attachment ‘FOI2019-043_Apps and Offers Dev Stud_To Disclose’.
Some information has been withheld under exemption S40(2) of the FOIA.
Where the total number of individuals is less than 5, the university has
replaced the figure with ‘equal to or less than 5’ (<5). This is in
accordance with guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office where
information relating to small populations could lead to the identification
of individuals. The School considers that in combination with information
from other sources individuals could be identified from the very low
numbers, and that such disclosure would contravene the first principle of
the GDPR relating to lawful and fair processing.

If you are dissatisfied with SOAS's response following this internal
