Information on Landlord Registration Scheme
Dear Department for Communities (Northern Ireland),
I am writing with a Freedom of Information request about the Landlord Registration Scheme.
Please could you supply me with as much as possible of the following information:
1. The number of landlords and private rented properties currently registered with the Landlord Registration Scheme (if possible, broken down by local authority)
2. Any estimate you hold of the number of private rented properties in Northern Ireland that remain unregistered
3. The revenue received by, and operating costs for, the Landlord Registration Scheme for each year since its inception
4. The number of landlords in Northern Ireland who have been prosecuted since the Landlord Registration Scheme was introduced for either a) failing to register or b) other offences under Parts 1 and 2 of the Housing Act 2004 or other relevant legislation.
5. Any information available on how the Landlord Registration Scheme's fees were calculated
6. And finally, please supply any evaluation you have carried out on the impact of the Landlord Registration Scheme.
Thanks very much for your help, and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can clarify any of these requests.
Yours faithfully,
Anna Smith
COVID-19 Virus – Information for Requesters.
Thank you for contacting the Department for Communities FOI team,
While FOI law still applies during this time the Department is facing
unprecedented pressures – for example as a result of staff absences,
office closures, or a significant increase in demand for our services,
such as access to benefits.
Therefore we may find it challenging to respond to information requests
within the 20 working day timescale set out in law.
We would ask requesters to think about the impact of Covid-19 when making
a request. Your information rights remain vitally important, and the FOI
principles of openness, transparency and accountability will play an
essential role in supporting public trust at this difficult time.
However, if you're planning a request, it's worth thinking about whether
there is any way the request might be narrowed to reduce its impact and
speed up your response.
Following guidance from the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), we
will keep requesters informed of any delays and will respond as soon as
resources allow.
We will also be keeping up to date on guidance from the ICO as the
situation changes to ensure that we comply with any changes or amendments
to information rights practice.
