Information on Deaths in Custody Attributed to Excited Delirium

The request was successful.

Dear Independent Police Complaints Commission,

I am currently preparing a presentation on Excited Delirium and would like to know, from your time of inception, how many "Deaths in Custody" are attributed to Excited Delirium and of those deaths how many involved the use of Taser.

I am aware that at the time of writing the use of Taser is not a contributing factor as it does not significantly effect the bodies production of Dopamine, in itself a factor.

Yours faithfully,

Christopher FROST

Dear Gemma Thomas,

Many thanks for the useful information and thank you for your prompt response.

I just require clarification on one point contained within the following paragraph of your response:

"Of these five deaths, a Taser was used in the circumstances of the incident prior to the death in two cases; in one case it was discharged and in the other it was ‘red-dotted’ only."

By writing "Discharged" do you mean fired and hit its intended target?

Yours sincerely,

Chris FROST

Gemma Thomas,

Dear Mr Frost

Thank you for your email below.

I can confirm that by 'discharged' this means that the Taser was fired and it hit its intended target.

Please do let me know if we can be of any more help.

Yours sincerely
