Information on barrette wall construction in Euston Station approach cutting

Fran Heron made this Freedom of Information request to High Speed Two (HS2) Limited

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear High Speed Two (HS2) Limited,

As a member of the Euston Community Representative Group and also chair of Ampthill Square Tenants and Residents Association I have attended so-called HS2 Engagement meetings specifically to find out what is planned for our area and what will be the impact.

Despite attending the ECRG meeting on the 20th July during which a presentation on Hampstead Road Bridge was given, following a site specific meeting on Ampthill Square Estate with HS2 Ltd on July 14th, much relevant information was not provided.

I have already requested technical information regarding HRB However, it had not been explained to me by a colleague that the markings on the edge of the cutting wall under and to the south east aspect of HRB represent barrette walls.

Please supply the following information in this respect

1. Do the marking on the periphery of Ampthill Square estate represent the placement of barrette wall panels?
2..Why has not the purpose, construction and impacts of these been mentioned to residents at multiple meetings?
3. What is a barrette wall and how is it constructed?
4. Will any of this be constructed within the perimeter of Ampthill Square Estate?
5. How is construction carried out?
6. What are the dimensions of the barrette wall panels?
7. To what depth and width will a trench to accommodate these be, if required?
8. What will be the impacts in terms of noise and vibration?
9. Previously residents were told that there would be a need for 'ground anchors' to be installed reaching under Gillfoot tower block. Are barrette walls considered ground anchors or do they supercede the previous method of stabilising the ground? Are they in addition to ground anchors?
10. What is the expected duration of construction and start date for construction?
11 Any other information you feel is relevant to this enquiry.

Yours faithfully,

Frances M Heron
