Information on A580 bus lanes

The request was partially successful.

Dear Transport for Greater Manchester,

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please provide responses to the following:

1) Did tfgm carry out any studies for the new bus lanes on the East Lancs Road to show the benefits for buses and negative effects on general traffic?

2) What studies were carried out to determine the effects of the scheme? Who carried out the studies?

3) Was the aim of the project to put a bus lane along the East Lancs regardless of whether it is needed or not?

4) Did any thought go into deciding where the bus lanes were being put? Who decided where to put the bus lanes and how was this decided?

5) Traffic jams stem from the East Lancs at Worsley Road (both ways) why did tfgm not build any extra lanes at the junction?
What effect on general traffic did the studies show in terms of extra queuing and delay here?

6) Did the studies show where the standing traffic would extend back to in the morning and the evening? Does this correlate with what is actually happening now? If not, why not?

7) Who decided that these effects would be acceptable?

8) Did tfgm seek ways to reduce the negative effects on general traffic here? What measures did tfgm consider and what measures have been put in?

9) There are no pedestrian crossings at Worsley Road. I consider the subways unsafe and would not want my children to use them. Why did tfgm not take the opportunity to put pedestrian crossings in at the junction? It is very close to primary and secondary schools.

10) Please provide a copy of any reports or documentation with results of studies and/or recommendations at this junction relating to the bus priority project .

11) Please provide evidence of the procedure used to decide where the bus lanes were to be put in.

I understand that under the Act that I am entitled a response within 20 working days of your receipt of this request. Please send me the response and supporting information electronically.

Yours faithfully,

David Law
