Information gathered and stored by RFID tags at West Cheshire College

The request was partially successful.

Dear West Cheshire College,

Under the Freedom of Information Act please could you supply the following information within 20 working days.

1) Please advise if the real time location data from the RFID chips can be stored and can be re-viewed.

2) If students/staff real time location data is stored please advise how long it is stored for.

3) Are the RFID tags able to be turned off? If so please advise by whom.

4) Are the RFID tags considered active?

5) Data Protection Public Register entry Z7156962 for West Cheshire College http://www.ico.gov.uk/esdwebpages/DoSear....

There is no entry made that mentions the real time location system (RTLS), to check building use or registration, that West Cheshire College has with regard to the monitoring of RFID tagged students/staff. As of 6th January 2013 none of the words ‘real’ ‘time’ ‘location’ ‘rfid’ ‘chip’ ‘tag’ ‘radio’ ‘frequency’ appear on the entry and the only use on the word ‘monitoring’ is mentioned under CCTV use.

Please consider this a complaint about West Cheshire College’s Data Protection Register entry and advise why this data collection is not listed on the college’s entry. If the RFID RTLS is entered please advise where the entry is.

6) Please advise how many CCTV cameras are located at West Cheshire College, by campus.

If you need further clarification, please contact me by email. My preferred format to receive the information is electronically, butI can accept hard copies.

Some parts of this request may be easier to answer than others, and in such case please could you release available data as soon as possible rather than delay the entire request.

If the costs of processing this request exceed the limit in the Act, please advise on what information you are able to supply within the cost limit.

Yours faithfully,

Pippa King
