Information and documents relating to staff wellbeing in higher education

The request was successful.

Dear Heythrop College,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I would be interested in any information held by your organisation regarding my request on staff wellbeing in Higher Education (HE).

I would like to request the following information, covering the last 12 months:

1. The job title of the senior manager with lead responsibility for staff wellbeing in the University.
2. The number of mental health specialist staff available within the university to support staff wellbeing.
3. A copy of the University’s Policy (procedures)/other relevant document(s) to support the wellbeing of staff.
4. The type of services offered to support staff wellbeing in the University
5. The number of referrals to services offered where staff wellbeing was a primary reason for the referral
6. Staff take up (number) by each service offered to support staff wellbeing.

Please provide the above information in the form of electronic files.

If it is not possible to provide the information required due to the information exceeding the cost of compliance limits identified in section 12, please provide assistance under section 16, obligation of the Act, as to how I can refine my request.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to receiving the above information.

Yours faithfully,

Vida Douglas

Dear Heythrop College,

Further to my recent FOI request. I do not appear to have received a response which I should have received by 24th December.

I would be grateful if you could advise me on the progress of my request.

Yours faithfully,

Vida Douglas

Dear Vida Douglas

Thank you for your enquiry and my apologies for the delay in responding. I send below a partial reply - I will endeavour to get the remaining information (the data for question 6) as soon as possible

It may be helpful for you to know for context that Heythrop College, University of London is closing at the end of this month.

The answers to your questions are as follows:

1. The job title of the senior manager with lead responsibility for staff wellbeing is 'Human Resources Manager'
2. Rather than employing mental health specialist staff to support staff wellbeing, we provide staff with access to external services, Empathy and Only Connect Counselling Service (offered by the University of Westminster)
3 SEE ATTACHMENT
4 As well as access to Empathy and the Only Connect Counselling Service, our HR Department has provided a number of wellbeing days in recent years. These have included sessions with nurses for mini health checks and flu jabs, sessions with nutritionists for one to one consultations and wellbeing talks, massage, self-employment seminars, CV building seminars, sessions with employment coaches (these last particularly relevant in the context of institutional closure). We also make referrals to an occupational health service provider.
5 Staff self-refer to Empathy and Only Connect and we do not have a record of reasons
6 we do not have records of self-referrals to Empathy. In the last twelve months the number of self-referrals to Only Connect was XX. The number of referrals to occupational health was YY.
