organisations information technology team and infrastructure equipment:

1. What is your annual IT Infrastructure Budget for 2016, 2017 & 2018?
2. What storage vendor(s) and model do you currently use?
3. When was the installation date of above storage vendor(s)? (Month/year)
4. When is your planned (or estimated) storage refresh date? (Month/year)
5. What is your estimated budget for the refresh?

The College uses frameworks depending on the tender type, and works with
re-sellers depending on the service sought. Please will you explain the
context of your question so that we can respond appropriately?

The College considers information concerning the annual IT infrastructure
budget to be commercially sensitive.  It cannot be provided as this could
impact the fairness of the infrastructure tender processes. Its disclosure
could potentially damage the College’s ability to secure the best value
contracts in the future. As such this information is exempt from
disclosure under Section 43 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act. 
Section 43 (2) states that information is exempt if its disclosure “would
or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of any person
(including the public authority holding it).”  We do not believe the
public interest in the release of this information outweighs the potential
impact of the disclosure of this information. It is also in the public
interest that the College is able to negotiate the best value price.

 

2. What storage vendor(s) and model do you currently use?

IBM, various models

 

3. When was the installation date of above storage vendor(s)? (Month/year)

During the last five years

 

4. When is your planned (or estimated) storage refresh date? (Month/year)

2018

 

5. What is your estimated budget for the refresh?

The College considers information concerning the estimated budget to be
commercially sensitive.  It cannot be provided as this could impact the
fairness of the infrastructure tender processes. Its disclosure could

.It is therefore exempt from disclosure under Section 21 of the FOIA,
which states that “information which is reasonably accessible to the
applicant otherwise than under section 1 is exempt information.”

 

9. Please confirm if you are utilising desktop virtualisation technologies
and if so how many users do you provide services for?

VMware VDI for less than 100 users.

 

10. What backup software do you use?

EMC Networker

 

11. How much data do you backup in TB?

100 TB

 

12. Number of servers?

350 physical servers

 

13. What operating system(s) do you use?

Windows and Oracle Enterprise Linux

 

14. Number of virtualised servers?

1,100 VMs

 

15. What percentage of your environment is virtualised?

75%

the contract started and ends.

The only outsourced service is our Printing Service, which is provided by
Safecom. This contract ends in 2017.

The College uses frameworks depending on the tender type, and work with
re-sellers depending on the service sought. You clarified that the
information required for this question is as follows: “please tell me the

The College has a team of two engineers managing our storage systems;
assuming they spend 70% of their time on purely managing the systems this
amounts to approximately 50 hours per week. The College does not hold any
information on the amount of time taken carving out LUNs and/or Volumes.

organisation as a whole, experience with regard to the storage and usage
of the virtualised workloads.
