I am writing to solicit the information about the Master of Arts (MA) at the University of
Oxford.
In accordance with the regulation at Oxford, the MA indicates the level of seniority at Oxford
and may be conferred upon matriculated students 21 terms (7 years) after the matriculation.
Matriculated students who have completed the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Fine Arts
(BFA) are eligible to apply for the MA.

I have two questions:
First, are matriculated students in pursuit of the Bachelor of Theology (BTh) eligible for the
MA after completing the degree and 21 terms after the matriculation?
Secondly, are matriculated students enrolled on the Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) or
Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at the postgraduate level eligible for the MA after completing the
degree and 21 terms after the matriculation?
Dear Mr Cavendish
I write in reply to your email requesting the information detailed above.
Students who have completed a Bachelor of Theology (MTh), a Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) or a Bachelor of
Civil Law (BCL) degree are not eligible to have the degree of Master of Arts conferred 21 terms after
matriculation. The full regulations relating to the MA can be found in the University Examination Regulations
here.
Yours sincerely
