Information about Great Yarmouth Charter Academy 2

The request was successful.

Dear Norfolk County Council,

I would like to make an official Freedom of Information Request about the following data about Great Yarmouth Charter Academy:

From the start of the Autumn Term 2017 (6 September 2017) up to now (6 June 2018):
how many children that attended Great Yarmouth Charter Academy were:

a) deregistered (removed from school roll to home educate)

b) transferred to another school (number of children reported to the council as having been moved AWAY from the school to be enrolled in another / in year transfer between schools)

c) reported missing education (CME. Children reported to the council as a possible missing child, ie not receiving a suitable education)

d) permanently excluded (Children reported to the council as permanently excluded from the school, meaning that the child is no longer allowed to attend the school and their name is removed from the school roll)

To my knowledge the information above is being provided to you by the school, when they fill out your CME 1 form ''Notification of Removal of a Child's Name from a School Roll'' (link to it is on the following page: http://www.schools.norfolk.gov.uk/Behavi...)

Yours faithfully,

Information Management, Norfolk County Council

Dear Karen

Freedom of Information Act 2000 –Information Request ENQ-231940-X0J3W2

I refer to your request for information dated 06 June 2018. I confirm that
Norfolk County Council has now completed its search for the information
you requested.

You asked for:

From the start of the Autumn Term 2017 (6 September 2017) up to now (6
June 2018):

how many children that attended Great Yarmouth Charter Academy were:

a) deregistered (removed from school roll to home educate)

b) transferred to another school (number of children reported to the
council as having been moved AWAY from the school to be enrolled in
another / in year transfer between schools)

c) reported missing education (CME. Children reported to the council as a
possible missing child, ie not receiving a suitable education)

d) permanently excluded (Children reported to the council as permanently
excluded from the school, meaning that the child is no longer allowed to
attend the school and their name is removed from the school roll)

The following numbers of children have left Great Yarmouth Charter Academy
in this academic year under the above categories:

 a. 38
 b. 32
 c. We have received 81 CME1 notifications from the Academy that children
have been removed from roll - a CME1 is a notification that a child
has left the roll of a school and doesn’t mean that they are missing
education
 d. 5 - The School Discipline (Pupil Exclusions and Reviews) (England)
Regulations 2012 dictate that schools are only required to notify the
LA of the reason and the duration of any exclusion, and are not
required to advise whether a child has an SEND status or any other
protected characteristic. We are therefore only able to advise on the
total number of exclusions and cannot confirm whether these relate to
children with SEN status.

If you are dissatisfied with our handling of your request you have the
right of appeal through the Council’s internal review procedure by setting
out the grounds of your appeal in writing to:

Dear Lewis,

Thank you for the information. I just need clarification for one of your replies:

You wrote: '' c. We have received 81 CME1 notifications from the Academy that children
have been removed from roll - a CME1 is a notification that a child
has left the roll of a school and doesn’t mean that they are missing
education ''

According to your website ( http://www.schools.norfolk.gov.uk/Behavi... ) ALL schools must send information to the Children Missing Education Assistant on form CME 1 when removing a child from the register - that would imply that you gave me the total number of children having been removed from Great Yarmouth Charter Academy as a reply to point c, namely 81.

It is not what I asked for. I specifically asked for number of children reported as missing education. If that is the case, the numbers of all the categories do not add up to the total number of children having left Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, which they should!

So can you please clarify:

What is the total number of children that have left (been deleted from the school register) Great Yarmouth Charter Academy this academic year up to date (between the beginning of September 2017 up to 4 July 2018)?

Yours sincerely,

Karin Siemund

Dear Karen,

To clarify, the total number of children the LA has been notified as being removed from roll is 81. This is the information the LA holds. The difference in figures can be accounted for by the fact that a CME1 is currently completed for all removals from roll and some of these children will have moved directly to another school.

In terms of question c, there are 4 children open to the Children Missing from Education team.
