Martin Antoszczak

Dear South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust,

My name is Martin, I am a second year student paramedic currently investigating the use of non-invasive ventilation in UK ambulance services as part of one of my assignments. I would like to request the following information:

1. Is there any region within SCAS currently where ambulance crews* have access to non-invasive ventilation machines in the form of CPAP or Bi-PAP?

2. Is there any region within SCAS where there are plans to introduce non-invasive ventilation machines in the form of CPAP or Bi-PAP in the foreseeable future for use by ambulance crews*?

* Where ambulance crews refers to vehicles which are either paramedic-led or technician-led and responding to 999 calls.

Yours faithfully,

Martin Antoszczak

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your e-mail

In response to your FOI request, SCAS does not currently use CPAP or BIPAP on our frontline vehicles.

We have explored the possibility, and viewed the available options but at this stage we have no plans to introduce it into frontline clinical practice.

We would be extremely interested to see your recommendation when your assignment is complete though.

I hope this information meets your requirements but if you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been handled, you can request a review by writing to: Will Hancock, Chief Executive, South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Units 7 & 8 Talisman Business Centre, Talisman Road, Bicester, Oxon, OX26 6HR.
